The Hollywood Nuptials That Lured the Clintons and Sheryl Sandberg The Hollywood Reporter

There were more stars in Palm Springs during the Nov. 16 weekend than at this year’s Oscars — and the musical numbers were better produced.

Former CAA agent Michael Kives — who departed the agency in February to launch media and financial advisory firm K5 Global — married nonprofit attorney Lydia Gray (in an Oscar de la Renta dress) on Nov. 17 at Parker Palm Springs in front of a starry set of A-listers and industry insiders. Kives started his career working for Bill and Hillary Clinton and both were on hand, taking the stage together to give a speech. That was just one highlight in a nuptials program that also featured a speech by “best man” and former Kives client Kate Hudson; Katy Perry singing alongside Ellie Goulding; Sia going solo for a rendition of the Elvis Presley classic “Can’t Help Falling in Love”; a poetry reading by Cleo Wade titled “Good Love”; and a good ribbing of the groom courtesy of a roast by former head writers of The Office, Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky, who were dressed as Canadian Mounties.

Other attendees included power players from the worlds of politics (Sen. Cory Booker, Arnold Schwarzenegger, L.A. Mayor Eric Garcetti), royalty (Princess Beatrice, Crown Prince Hussein of Jordan), tech (Tesla guru Elon Musk, ousted Uber CEO Travis Kalanick, Google’s Eric Schmidt, Facebook’s Sheryl Sandberg with Activision’s Bobby Kotick) and branding (do-it-all moguls Jessica Alba and Reese Witherspoon). A source tells THR that Sen. Kamala Harris was expected but couldn’t make it last minute.

As for the happy couple, both are graduates of Stanford (Kives went for undergrad while Gray is a graduate of Stanford Law School). The bride spent time working for the ACLU of Southern California with a focus on criminal justice and First Amendment issues, something noted by Bill Clinton in his remarks. “She could’ve made a pile of money and she chose to go to the ACLU,” he said. She’s now an attorney for The Bail Project. The new marrieds haven’t yet announced where they’ll be spending their honeymoon — or who will be on that guest list.
